Meet Rachel Alves
"Getting to know you, putting it my way but nicely. You are precisely my cup of tea." - The King and I
Rachel was born in Providence, Rhode Island, as the middle child in a family of five. Rachel was enrolled in her first dance class at the age of three, along with her older sister. But soon dance became a passion for Rachel as she found comfort in its freedom of movement and predictable class format. Having been diagnosed with sensory processing disorders and anxiety at an early age, dance became a safe place for Rachel to feel comfortable enough to truly come out of her shell.
By the age of 12, Rachel was enrolled in multiple dance styles, including ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, and hip hop. She also began branching out into musical theater, performing in school and community theater productions. This experience began to solidify Rachel'dream of working in the entertainment industry as she got older.
Rachel went on to attend St Mary's Academy Bayview, an all-girls private high school. Here, her love for dance, music, theater, and even cheerleading grew. The all-girls environment allowed for Rachel's confidence to grow exponentially and instilled in her values such as helping others, the importance of female friendships, and resilience.
In August of 2023, the Alves family made the 30-hour drive from little Rhode Island to the one and only Oklahoma City University. With a Major in Dance Management and a Minor in History, Rachel improved her dance and vocal technique and gained experience in stage management, lighting, and costumes. Here, Rachel has made lifelong friendships, gained leadership experience at the Ann Lacy School of Dance and Entertainment, and in her sorority, Gamma Phi Beta. She has realized her inner strength to do the impossible.
With plans to graduate in May of 2027, Rachel is excited about where her future might take her. With goals of working professionally as a performer and stage manager, and eventually settling down and opening a nonprofit performing arts school, the future is full of possibilities. In the end, Rachel is a kind and compassionate young woman, who, once you get to know her, your life will never be the same. She loves fiercely, thinks deeply and laughs loudly, and every day she works to leave the world a little better than how she found it.
